The Agenda | Tuesday, Aug. 4

Chris Graham

A look around the Virginia and Valley politics landscape as we head into Tuesday, Aug. 4 …
– Creigh Deeds continues his Deeds Country Tour. The updated schedules that we keep getting haven’t let us in on when and where the Creigh Deeds campaign will make it here to the Staunton-Waynesboro area, and I haven’t gotten any phone calls or e-mails asking me to help coordinate a Waynesboro event, so … .
My guess is we’ll get a Staunton visit on Thursday or Friday.
I’ve been underwhelmed by the Deeds campaign since the big primary win. The Dems seemed to have all the momentum given the enormity of the Deeds victory, and the positioning of Deeds vis-a-vis Republican nominee Bob McDonnell in the race (Creigh being a conservative Blue Dog, it seemed that he would outflank McDonnell for the center and the center-right). Maybe the Deeds folks like having to come from way behind, because that’s where we are right now. And yes, it’s hard to believe given the way things have gone in Virginia the past several years.

– I’m still hoping to get the chance to meet Democratic attorney-general nominee Steve Shannon before Election Day. We’re 215 days into 2009, and 92 days to go ’til the ’09 election on Nov. 3. I’d settle for trading e-mails at this point. (Something is seriously wrong here, by the way. I’ve interviewed their guy, and not ours. Hello!)

– 25th House District candidate Greg Marrow will be the featured guest at a lawn party at the home of Marshall and Megan Pattie outside of Staunton Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. (Yes, the Patties live in the 25th. Nice gerrymandering job by the GOP in 2000-2001.) For more details: 540.292.5243 or [email protected].

Podcast: Are we about to lose the other of our local newspapers?

It was odd that Waynesboro and Staunton were each able to maintain their local daily newspapers for so long, given the realities of the media market, but we couldn’t keep the good thing going forever, it seems.
