Wildlife Center of Virginia staff members are preparing to provide care for a diverse array of wild patients on Thanksgiving Day.
Veterinary and rehabilitation teams are expected to care for approximately 153 animals with customized meals and treatments tailored to each patient’s needs.
As of November 26, 2024, the Center anticipates approximately 135 patients, plus 18 education animals in their care. Since the number of patients is significantly lower than during the summer months, when the Center cared for nearly 300 animals daily, the upcoming guest list of 153 will be much more manageable.
Instead of a traditional Thanksgiving spread, the Wildlife Center staff will prepare dozens of species-specific meals to meet the nutritional needs and preferences of each animal. While rehabilitation staff are busy preparing the special meals, veterinarians will administer medical care, including distributing medications, cleaning wounds, changing bandages and performing daily health checks. The team will remain on alert, ready for any new patients that may arrive for the holiday.
A list of the animals currently under treatment at the Center can be provided upon request. The Wildlife Center of Virginia’s ability to provide critical care to wild animals is made possible by the generous support of caring individuals. As we enter the holiday season, staff would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Center’s supporters, who help make the vital work
possible. Both staff and patients are deeply thankful for the continued support.
The Wildlife Center of Virginia is a non-profit teaching and conservation hospital for native wild animals in Waynesboro. In 2024, the Center has already treated more than 4,400 injured, sick and orphaned animals from across Virginia.
