Virginia in the NCAA Baseball Championship
Virginia has competed in 14 NCAA tournaments, including the last 11. UVa is 36-29 in the tournament, including 24-13 over the last six seasons. Under Brian O’Connor (since 2004), UVa is 30-23 in the NCAA tourney. UVa owns five regional championships (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014) and advanced to the College World Series in 2009 and 2011.

Virginia Reaches Super Regional for Fifth Time in Six Years
Virginia and Florida State are the only schools to reach a super regional in five of the last six seasons. UVa is hosting its fourth super regional in the last five years (played in 2009 NCAA Super Regional at Ole Miss).

In hosting four super regionals, Virginia is one of 15 schools to play host to at least four supers (current format started in 1999). UVa is 5-6 all-time super regional games.

Virginia and Maryland are the final two ACC teams remaining in the tournament and form the first-ever all-ACC NCAA Super Regional.

Virginia Earns No. 3 National Seed
Seeded third in the 2014 field, Virginia has earned a national seed for the fourth time (all in the last five years). UVa was the No. 5 seed in 2010, the top seed in 2011 and the No. 6 seed last year. Virginia joins Florida and Florida State as the lone schools to earn national seeds in four of the last five years.

UVa is the highest remaining seed in the tournament. Only three of the eight national seeds advanced (No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette and No. 7 TCU).

Pitching Carries UVa Through Regional
Virginia’s pitching staff came up big in the regional as the Cavaliers allowed three runs, fewest of any team in the tournament. Five teams allowed four runs each in the regional.

UVa’s starters worked 21 2/3 scoreless innings in the regional before allowing a run. UVa pitchers struck out 25 and walked seven while limiting their regional foes to a .151 batting average.
