Boston blanked the Orioles for the second straight day, with seven Red Sox pitchers combining on a five-hitter to shut out Baltimore, 8-0, on Saturday in Fenway Park.
The O’s (76-78) had entered the weekend series with the Sox with an outside shot at playing their way into the American League wild-card race, but the recent power outage has that effort on life support.
Baltimore is now four and a half games behind Houston for the second wild-card spot in the AL with eight games to play.
Heath Hembree (2-0, 3.57 ERA) vulture the win with an inning of scoreless relief.
Wei-Yin Chen (10-8, 3.35 ERA) took the loss, giving up two runs on five hits in five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two.
