Staunton Parks and Recreation will host its first health expo for seniors on Friday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gypsy Hill Park Gym, 600 Churchville Ave., Staunton.
The 50 & Better Senior Health Expo is a free event that will combine complimentary health screenings and informational booths on a broad variety of senior wellness needs.
Screenings and services available at the expo will range from various free medical checks, sight and hearing reviews, nutritional information and an assortment of health and aging resources all under one roof.
The Parks and Recreation Department will provide the following free screenings at the expo:
- Blood pressure
- Peripheral Arterial Disease
- Balance Posture analysis
- Memory
- Hearing test and hearing aid adjustment/cleaning
Information will also be available about different types of cancer screening and tests.
Exhibits will include information about:
- senior living
- audiobook services for the hearing impaired
- elder abuse legal services
- Medicaid; adult day care
- 2020 Census and jobs
- court-appointed advocates
- and general health care needs
Several demonstrations and additional information will be offered that encourage active living, including senior programs, trips and travel offered by Parks and Recreation, fitness stretching, safety preparation and self-defense.
“Staunton Parks and Recreation supports a strong aging lifestyle and healthy and active opportunities, and this is one way that we can better support them,” said Ken Jacobsen, recreation manager. “We encourage our local “50 & Better” population to stay active, stay engaged and never stop becoming a better you.”
Coffee and refreshments will be available for attendees to enjoy as they tour the expo.
