Staunton District Traffic Alerts: May 28-June 1

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 29-31 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 29 to 36, eastbound – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Weekdays, May 29 to June 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mile marker 35 to 39, eastbound – Right lane closures for pavement marking. Through June 1 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 60 (Midland Trail/Dunlap Creek Road) – Flagger and pilot-truck traffic control for installation of pavement markers from Covington city limits to I-64 interchange at exit 10 (Callaghan). Through June 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Morris Hill Road) – Road closed through June 7 for bridge work over Rucker Hollow Stream and Dry Branch tributary. Residents will have access to properties on either side of the bridges. Through traffic will follow posted detours.
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 780 (Brattons Run Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge work over Bratton Run. May 30-June1 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zones for mowing operations and grading. Flagger traffic control for grading, ditching, patching and pipe replacement. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 608 (Cold Springs Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for bridge work at Stony Run between Route 656 (Offliter Road) and Route 849 (Mullins Lane). May 30-31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through spring 2018 to through traffic between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents and school buses will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 840 (Old Churchville Road) – Road closed between east and west intersections of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) for box culvert installation. Through June 5 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Follow posted detours.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 252 to 253, northbound – Overnight left lane closure for paving operations from 8 p.m. May 30 to 7 a.m. June 1.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Intermittent lane and shoulder closures for pipe repairs between Elkton and Greene County line. Through May 31 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 603 (Blose Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 607 (Red Brush Road) to Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). Through June 1 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 11 – Traffic pattern change for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement project between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County: Northbound traffic will use the right lane of the new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic will use the right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Through mid-June. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line. Through June 1 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Winchester northern city limit to end of divided highway (2 miles north of Winchester), May 28-June 24 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Reliance Road to Winchester southern city limit, Monday-Friday through June 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line. Through June 1 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 634 (Cougill Road, Middletown) – Road closed through July 25 between Route 11 and Route 635 (Mineral Street) for the installation of water and sewer lines. Follow posted detour.

(UPDATE) Route 664 (Jordan Springs Road) – Road closed through June 4 for box culvert replacement at Route 1330 (Riverdale Circle). Follow posted detours.

Route 627 (Reliance Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Frederick County line to Route 340/522. Through May 30 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 637 (Guard Hill Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 340/522 to Route 627 (Reliance Road). Through May 30 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 664 (Whipporwill Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from dead end to Route 55 (Strasburg Road). June 1-8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 840 (Water Plant Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Frederick County line to Route 611 (Gafia Lodge Road). June 1-8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 842 (Forest Grove Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 612 (Gafia Lodge Road) to Route 611 (Long Meadow Road). June 1-8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
