A 41-year-old Texas man is dead following a motorcycle accident on Saturday morning on Interstate 295 in Henrico County.

Joshua Ballard from Bowie, Texas, died at a local hospital following the accident. His passenger, a 26-year-old woman from Fountain, Colo., who has not been identified, is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 11:15 a.m., approximately 0.1 mile north of Airport Drive.

The accident involved a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Ballard. Preliminary investigations reveal that the motorcycle struck an exposed lip between the lanes, which resulted from recent repaving and resurfacing work.

The impact caused both Ballard and his passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle.

Both were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash.
