A Stafford teen lost control of his Lexus on Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County and struck a tractor trailer on Thursday night.
The tractor trailer ran off the road and collided with several trees causing life-threatening injuries to the truck driver.
Virginia State Police is investigating the two-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:24 p.m. at the 127 mile-marker.
Ashton M. Faircloth, 18, was traveling south on I-95 in his Lexus ES300, when he swerved to avoid slower-moving traffic.
Faircloth lost control as a result and collided with a southbound Kenworth tractor trailer.
Faircloth suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Frank K. Tandoh, 43, of Dumfries, suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to VCU Health for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Faircloth was charged with reckless driving; failure to maintain proper control.
The crash remains under investigation.
