Spineless Biden administration drops rule extending Title IX protections to trans athletes

The Biden administration has completed its pathetic retreat from a proposed rule that would have extended Title IX protections to trans student-athletes.

The administration was set to finalize the rule last year, but squirmed out of doing that because it was fearful of political backlash going into the 2024 election cycle.

As if that was going to do anything but spur more political backlash, right?

Last week, Biden’s Department of Education wrote that it “recognizes that there are multiple pending lawsuits related to the application of Title IX in the context of gender identity, including lawsuits related to Title IX’s application to athletic eligibility criteria in a variety of factual contexts” in citing its decision to drop the new rule.

Give Republicans credit for one thing: when they say they’re going to do something, they actually get it done.

Democrats are afraid of their own shadows.

Having a backbone to do the right thing when bigots are breathing down their necks: not so much.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is among those taking a victory lap on this one.

“The proposed rule would have jeopardized the integrity of women’s sports, forcing female athletes to compete on an uneven playing field while uprooting decades of progress for women in sports. I’m proud to have stood up for Virginia’s female athletes and for the common-sense protections they deserve,” Miyares said in a statement released by his office on Monday.

I’d say, shameful, to Miyares here, but the real shame should be felt by the Biden folks, who can’t seem to find a principle they won’t go back on to try to appease the wrong people.
