Southern Virginia overcame strong performances by former Waynesboro High School star Todd Phillips and former R.E. Lee star Eli Crawford to post a 92-79 win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday.

The loss for the Royals was their first of the season after an 8-0 start.

A pair of Phillips free throws capped a 10-0 second-half run that gave EMU a 53-52 lead, but the Royals shot only 39 percent from the field in the second half.

Phillips led EMU with 19 points and eight rebounds. Crawford scored 16 for EMU.
