The Blue Ridge Classic Soap Box Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, in Downtown Waynesboro with 67 soap box derby racers competing for the top trophies.

Opening ceremonies start at 8 a.m. with a parade of drivers, past derby winners, and local officials on hand. Stock and Super Stock cars will be competing throughout the day with awards ceremonies at Waynesboro High School at 7 p.m.

Additional activities for the day include a special race where two lucky parents who won an opportunity to drive a celebrity soapbox car in a special drawing will be racing at 9 a.m. The mayors of Staunton and Waynesboro are also on tap to race before the first races in the Blue Ridge Classic.
