According to the National Weather Service, precipitation is expected to reach the area early Saturday morning. The precipitation will start as snow before changing to sleet and freezing rain. As temperatures warm, the precipitation will change over to rain.

In other areas of Virginia and Western Virginia, a similar forecast is likely. However, the advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. Saturday to midnight. The areas under this advisory include the counties of Shenandoah, Page, Warren, Clarke, Greene, Madison, Fauquier and Northern Virginia.

According to the NWS, a second round of winter weather is possible early next week with snow and ice possible.

Tips from Waynesboro Public Works

Waynesboro Public Works sent out a winter weather reminder on Friday for residents in the city.

  • Check on elderly or disabled neighbors—a small gesture can make a big difference.
  • Use off-street parking if you can—it helps plows clear roads more effectively.
  • Allow extra time for travel and avoid unnecessary trips during the storm.
  • Be prepared for possible power outages—charge devices, stock up on essentials and have flashlights handy.
  • Stay home if possible—freezing rain makes roads slick and dangerous.
