Update: Arrest in investigation of shots fired at Staunton motel

policeUpdate: July 18, 11:59 a.m. Jeremy Shifflett, 34 of Stuarts Draft, has been arrested in connection with the June 11 shooting at the Sleep Inn, according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

Shifflett, arrested on July 17, has been charged with shooting in/at an occupied dwelling, destruction of property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all felonies.

A second man was also arrested in connection with this investigation. Isaiah S. Barker, 27, of Nelson County was arrested on June 25th for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Original post: June 12, 8:59 p.m. Deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s responded to the Sleep Inn in Staunton at 2:05 p.m. on Monday for the report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that a firearm had been discharged inside a room on the second floor. An examination of the scene revealed that an unknown caliber bullet penetrated the rooms door, crossed the hallway, and entered the door of an adjacent, unoccupied, room. After penetrating the second door, the bullet fragmented. No injuries were reported.

The matter is under investigation, and no arrests have been made with respect to the shooting.
