Shenandoah Valley Art Center to feature Cheyenne Crawford

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of November, is exhibiting the encaustic paintings and photographs of artist, Cheyenne Crawford.

Cheyenne CrawfordShe holds a Master of Fine Arts (2011) in photography from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction (2007) in Arts Management and Studio Art from Mary Baldwin College.  From her Staunton studio, she pursues a career in graphic design while also working as a portrait, wedding and commercial architectural photographer. Crawford’s exhibitions include galleries in Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro and Richmond, and she has presented talks at 1708 Gallery, Richmond and Co-Art Gallery in Staunton  To her credit, she has won the Ulysse Desportes Award for Outstanding Achievement in Art History, plus multiple awards from the Virginia Press Association and the Waynesboro Fall Foliage Festival of Art.  She enjoys the applied and commercial arts, but her true love lies in her fine art work. An Opening Reception and Artist Talk will be held November 9, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and the public is encouraged to come, meet, and talk to the artist.

The Hallway Gallery will present works of art by participants of the 2013 Shenandoah Valley Art Center workshops and classes.  The artworks will range from prints to ceramics.  In the Members’ Gallery, the winners of the October Shenandoah Valley Art Center’s Member’s Exhibit will be featured. The second annual exhibition of member’s artwork was judged by Beverley Street Studio instructor and artist, Jeffrey Stockberger.  Best in Show was awarded to Anne Weede, second place to Matt Hahn, third place to Joe Sheridan, honorable mentions to William Groah, Linda Waddell, and Sandra Bryson. Two additional awards were given: Special Classical Realism Award to Anne de la Tour and the Penny Cabell Memorial Watercolor Award went to Peg Sheridan.  In the Docent Room, Julia Kindred, a resident studio artist of the art center, will present her oil paintings which are predominantly landscapes.

Please join us for free open studio opportunities. SVAC hosts on each second and fourth Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., an Artist’s Playground meeting and third Thursdays the Art Trading Card Group meets.  Shenandoah Valley Art Center offers, the ever popular Saturday Art for Kids, presenting a creative art experience for young artists from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.   Contact the art center for specific information and pre-registration for each class.
