WINNER: Jameel Sewell
His numbers (16-for-31, 169 yards) were pedestrian, but he led UVa. to 44 points – 27 in the decisive first quarter – and drew praise from coach Al Groh for his checks at the line.
More telling – freshman backup Peter Lalich didn’t even warm up in the second half with the Cavs in total control.
The ‘Hoos are Sewell’s – for now, anyway.

WINNER: Dukes roll over Villanova
JMU has been solid since its season-opening loss at UNC – so solid that you have to start thinking that another trip to the playoffs is in the offing.
Question mark: four of the Dukes’ last six are on the road.

PUSH: Virginia Tech struggles to defeat Heels
A week after UNC had its doors blown off at South Florida, the Heels were in the game until the very end at sluggish Virginia Tech – whose offense has not looked any better under freshman Tyrod Taylor than it did under beleaguered junior Sean Glennon.
A win is a win is a win is a win – but these Hokies are not looking at all like the team that some had said would be a darkhorse national-title contender before the season.

LOSER: Denny Hamlin
Another weekend, another wreck – and now he’s so far out of the running for the Chase that he might as well not be there.
Oh, well. There’s always next year.

WINNER: Redskins go unbeaten over the weekend
Sure, they had a bye – but after that debacle at FedEx last weekend, you can’t ever be too sure.

UP: Al Groh, Cedric Peerman, CAA football
JURY IS OUT: Tyrod Taylor, hopes of landing Virginia team in BCS, Washington Nationals
DOWN: Peter Lalich, Sean Glennon, ACC football
