Senate Democrats pretend to do something about withdrawal from Paris Agreement

Donald Trump, for a second time, has withdrawn the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, which puts us in the company of Iran, Libya and Yemen as the only countries in the world not part of the international agreement on climate change.

Even Russia, even North Korea, are signatories.

In between Trump, Joe Biden got the U.S. back into the Paris Agreement, first thing when he got into the White House back in 2021, though Biden undermined himself and the rest of us by thinking he was poised to win a second term, and, here we are.

Senate Democrats are now behind a toothless effort to pass a resolution to express support for Paris.

I’d say, hey, they’re trying, but they’re barely trying.

“From sea level rise in Hampton Roads and on the Eastern Shore to hurricanes in Southwest Virginia, climate change is affecting us all and threatening the safety of our communities,” said Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., who is still exercising his right to remain silent on why he voted to confirm Kristi Noem as Homeland Security Security.

New nickname time – Kaine and Sen. Mark Warner, also D-Va., who voted to back the dramatically overreaching Laken Riley Act last week, are now our Vichy Virginia Democrats.

Cooperate with the Nazis, you might as well be one of them.

Anyway, back to the toothless effort to say something about climate change.

“I’m disappointed, but not surprised, by President Trump’s short-sighted withdrawal from the Paris Accords, and that’s why I’m joining my colleagues in introducing this resolution to express support for the goals of the climate agreement,” Kaine said. “I remain committed to building on our progress in recent years to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve resiliency, accelerate clean energy production, and keep Americans safe.”

Well, la-di-da.
