Route 256 in Grottoes to close July 28-30 for repairs

road-work-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation will close part of Route 256 (Third Street) in Rockingham County from July 28-30, 2014. This is for repairs to the railroad crossing just west of Route 340 (Eastside Highway) in the town of Grottoes.

Route 256 is scheduled to close at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 28 and reopen about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30. All work is weather permitting.

Signs will direct drivers on the following detours: Eastbound traffic will turn north on Aspen Avenue, east on Cary Street and south on Route 340 back to Route 256. Westbound traffic will be directed north on Route 340, west on Cary Street and south on Aspen Avenue to Route 256.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511 and at 511Virginia.org. For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center, available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week. Citizens can dial 1-800-FOR- ROAD(1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
