Robert Hurt votes for House GOP Obama-slapping bill

Robert_HurtCongressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, H.R. 427, which would reduce overly-burdensome federal government regulations and ensure accountability in the federal rulemaking process.

“As I travel throughout Virginia’s Fifth District, I regularly encounter small businesses and family farms who continue to struggle under the weight of excessive and ever-increasing federal regulations that are inhibiting their ability to succeed and create the jobs we so desperately need.  During the first six years of this Administration, federal regulators added an average of 81 new major regulations each year.  These federal regulations often come at a serious cost to our economy and our families — imposing real burdens that add up to thousands of dollars.  By requiring more input from Congress in the federal rule making process, this legislation would be a step in the right direction toward creating a more stable environment for job creators.

“The REINS Act would provide regulatory relief for job creators by requiring Congress to approve each new regulation with an impact of $100 million or more per year.  It would also reinstitute accountability within the rulemaking process; as it stands now, unelected bureaucrats impose these costly regulations without transparency or accountability. However, this bill would require Congress, which is directly accountable to the American people, to vote on all major regulations.  I was proud to cosponsor this legislation and pleased to see it pass the House with bipartisan support today.  I urge our colleagues in the Senate to take up this bill and pass it to the President for his signature.”
