A tractor trailer caught on fire after a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 295 southbound in Henrico County Friday afternoon.

The fiery crash occurred at the 41-mile marker just after 2 p.m. when the tractor-trailer truck struck the driver’s side bumper of a Tesla sedan causing the truck’s driver to lose control.

The Richmond division of Virginia State Police confirmed that the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The name of the truck’s driver has not been released. Charges are pending.

No additional injuries were reported.

VSP troopers arrived on scene within one minute after the emergency call and found the truck fully engulfed in flames off the left shoulder of the roadway.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the truck was traveling southbound in the left lane when it began to accelerate and attempted to change lanes. After striking the Tesla, the truck then veered off the left shoulder, struck the guardrail, broke through it and entered a wooded area where it hit several trees and caught fire.
