Phil Konopka was named the Week 9 PIFL Offensive Player of the Week following the Richmond Raiders 55-33 win over the Harrisburg Stampede.
Konopka had a season high four touchdowns on 20 of 31 passing, and added another TD on the ground. He threw touchdown passes to Herb Jones on consecutive drives to start the second half, and added a 28 yard strike to Daron Clark to complete a 21-0 run that gave the Raiders what eventually proved to be an insurmountable
lead.
The award is Konopka’s first, and the second for the Raiders this season. Torez Jones won the Special Teams weekly honor after the Raiders’ thrilling 38-35 win over the Alabama Hammers on April 12.
Konopka is the third starting quarterback that the Raiders have used this season, and has brought some much needed stability to the position. In his four starts, he has completed over 57% of his passes and has an efficiency rating of 100.6, which would place him fourth in the league if he had enough games to qualify.
The Raiders will return to action Sunday, June 1 at the Georgia Fire. They’ll return home Friday, June 6 to face the Lehigh Valley SteelHawks. Tickets start as low as $7, and are available on the Raiders’ website, www.RichmondRaidersProFootball.com, or by calling 1-855-GO-RAIDERS or 804-780-0430. Additionally, fans can contact the Richmond Coliseum box office or visit ticketmaster.com.
