road-work-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Route 649 (Proffit Road) from Oct. 19 to Nov. 20 to make repairs to the one-lane bridge over Norfolk Southern Railway. The bridge is located approximately 0.3 mile north of Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road).

VDOT’s work involves replacement in kind of the aged timber deck. The bridge’s width and 16-ton weight limit will remain the same.

Signs will be posted to detour motorists from Route 20 (Stony Point Road) to Route 600 (Watts Passage Road) to Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and reverse.
