Pittsylvania County: One dead after high-speed crash overnight on Route 844

A Virginia man is dead after a high-speed crash overnight on Route 844 in Pittsylvania County.

Kevin Leander Myers, 37, of Dry Fork, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The fatal crash occurred at 4:42 a.m., two tenths of a mile north of Route 703.

Myers was driving a Nissan Sentra south on Route 844 at a high rate of speed, when the vehicle crossed the center line, overcorrected and ran off the right side of the roadway striking a tree, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
