Chris Tillman gave up a run on two hits in seven-plus innings, but Orioles reliever Darren O’Day gave up a pair of run-scoring singles in a three-run Tampa Bay eighth as the Rays defeated the O’s, 3-1, on Friday night.
Tillman walked Kevin Kiermaier on a 3-2 pitch to lead off the eighth, and was lifted for O’Day, who got Joey Butler to line out to center and struck out Steven Souza. Kiermaier stole second during the Souza at bat, and scored on a single by John Jaso, tying the score at 1-1.
Evan Longoria singled to put runners on the corners, and O’Day intentionally walked James Loney to load the bases. Tim Beckham, on an 0-2 pitch, singled to center to plate two runs.
O’Day (5-1, 1.51 ERA) took the loss, his first of the 2015 season.
Baltimore (46-49) has lost 13 of its last 17 games.
