One of final two incoming UVA Baseball recruits taken in the 2024 MLB Draft whose status had been up in the air signed with his team, bringing the total to four.
Right-handed pitcher Bryce Meccage, taken in the second round with the 57th pick by the Milwaukee Brewers, signed for $2.5 million, nearly a million dollars over the slot value of the pick.
The other draft pick, outfielder James Nunnallee, who was taken in the 14th round by Milwaukee, did not sign, and will matriculate at Virginia, so, good news there.
The other Class of 2024 recruits to sign:
- Luke Dickerson, a high-school shortstop who went 44th to the Washington Nationals, got a $3.8 million signing bonus, significantly above the $2.1 million value for the slot, so, good for him.
- Caleb Bonemer, another high-school shortstop, who was taken one pick earlier, at 43, by the Chicago White Sox, got a $3 million signing bonus.
- Trey Gregory-Alford, a right-handed pitcher who went in the 11th round to the Los Angeles Angels, had been a projected second- or third-round pick, and he got money more appropriate to that slot level – signing for a $1.96 million bonus.
