odu logoOld Dominion University coach Bobby Wilder has hired Sam Perryman as cornerbacks coach, Wilder announced on Monday.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Perryman to the Old Dominion football family. Sam worked with Coach Buggs at Penn State from 2005-2008 and comes highly recommended,” Wilder said. “He has experience coaching both sides of the football, with special teams, and he has been a recruiting coordinator. Our players will be excited to work with him.”

Perryman joins the Monarchs after two seasons at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne.  Perryman coached the corners and was recruiting coordinator in 2014 and helped the Bears to an undefeated regular season before falling to Valdosta State in the playoffs.  In his first season at L-R in 2013, Perryman coached the wide receivers and the Bears advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship game.

“I am thrilled to be here at Old Dominion. Coach Wilder and his staff have built a great program in the short life of ODU football,” Perryman said.  “I’m happy to be a part of it, my wife Keiwana and I are happy to be joining the ODU football family and coming to the Hampton Roads area. I am looking forward to continue the success that has become a staple of Old Dominion football.”

In 2012, Perryman coached at Lock Haven University as a defensive backs coach.  Prior to that he spent two years at Beloit (WI) coaching the defensive line and as defensive coordinator in 2011.

Perryman coached the wide receivers at Bucknell in 2009 and prior to that spent four seasons at Penn State working with the strength and conditioning staff, offensive assistant and assistant defensive line coach.

He got his start in collegiate coaching in 2004 at Muhlenberg (PA).

Perryman was a four-year letterwinner at Lehigh, helping the Mountain Hawks to three Patriot League Champions in his four years.

I remember Tim Kaine, back when he was still lieutenant governor, playing a big role in helping the Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative get off the ground, back in 2004.
