Next man up: Virginia might need to move quickly if it wants Mark Richt

richtMark Richt was a target in a Virginia coaching search 15 years ago. Could the former Georgia coach be the focal point again in 2015?

If so, UVA athletics director Craig Littlepage might want to move quickly to get on Richt’s schedule.

“There may be more opportunities that come in the next few hours, the next 24, 48 hours, that type of thing. I’m going to listen to anyone that has interest in me coaching or not, in any area or any arena that’s a possibility,” Richt told reporters at his exit press conference on Monday.

And he seems to be hitting the ground running in that respect. One published report has Richt meeting with Maryland on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Since I’m not on the road recruiting right now, I’ll have an opportunity to look at a lot of options,” said Richt, who will remain at UGA to coach the Bulldogs (9-3, 5-3 SEC) in their bowl game.

“I think there are going to be a lot of options to weigh,” said Richt, 145-51 overall and 83-37 in the SEC in 15 seasons at Georgia. “I’m blessed in that way and thankful about that. I’m just not ready to say what I want to do yet.”
