New McAuliffe ad highlights Cuccinelli’s record on science

Chris Graham

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe has released a new television ad highlighting Ken Cuccinelli’s attacks on University of Virginia climate scientist Michael Mann. McAuliffe has been endorsed by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters for his commitment to protecting and restoring Virginia’s natural resources, his dedication to a strong renewable energy future for the Commonwealth, and his support of Virginia’s science and research communities.

The new ad, “Witch Hunt,” can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/18IZ9Yc.

“The race to become Virginia’s next Governor presents voters with the clearest of choices. Terry McAuliffe is the only candidate in this race committed to common sense polices that will protect the air we breathe and the water we drink,” said Virginia League Executive Director Jeff Painter. “Ken Cuccinelli, on the other hand, earned a lifetime Virginia League Score of 27% of a possible 100% during his time in the Virginia State Legislature.”

The new McAuliffe ad recounts the ideological witch hunt Ken Cuccinelli launched in 2010 against Michael Mann, a climate scientist then at the University of Virginia, for pursuing research with which Cuccinelli did not agree. The investigation, driven by Cuccinelli’s extreme anti-science agenda, was deemed baseless by the Virginia Supreme Court and cost the University of Virginia nearly $600,000 in legal fees.

“Terry McAuliffe supports the critical research our scientists are doing all across Virginia. This work will ensure Virginia pursues a renewable and clean energy future, strengthen our economy, and protect Virginia’s economic competitiveness in the 21st Century,” said Jim Dillard, former Republican Chairman of the Virginia House of Delegates’ Education Committee and member of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters. “We need a governor who encourages this innovative work, not someone who puts his own ideological agenda ahead of what Virginia’s economy needs.”

The Virginia League of Conservation Voters also applauded McAuliffe for his support for transportation reform in Virginia, which will embrace better land use strategies, reduce gridlock, and strengthen the Commonwealth’s infrastructure to support a growing economy.

Transcript of new McAuliffe ad “Witch Hunt“:

It’s been called Cucinelli’s witch hunt
Designed to intimidate and suppress,
Ken Cuccinelli used taxpayer funds to investigate a UVA professor whose research on climate change Cuccinelli  opposed.
Cuccinelli, a climate change denier, forced the university to spend over half a million dollars defending itself against its own attorney general
Ken Cuccinelli–he’s focused on his own agenda, not us.
