Mecklenburg County | Shooting kills one on Interstate 85 in Virginia

Details are scarce in a shooting that took place on Interstate 85 northbound in Mecklenburg County this afternoon that resulted in one death.

The driver of a Honda Civic, a White male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:47 p.m. this afternoon at the five-mile marker on I-85.

Troopers responding to the incident located the man’s vehicle that had gone off the right side of the road and was found in a culvert.

A female passenger in the Civic was transported to an area hospital but has been cleared to be released, according to authorities.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox field office is currently handling the investigation.
