Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo homer in the second, and Max Scherzer, Drew Storen and Jonathan Papelbon made it stand up in a 1-0 Washington win in Miami on Wednesday afternoon.
Scherzer (11-8, 2.22 ERA) gave up three hits and walked three in seven innings of work, striking out six.
Storen, tied for third in the National League with 29 saves, pitched for the first time in 2015 in his new setup-man role, striking out two in the eighth to hand the ball to Papelbon, acquired this week from Philadelphia to serve as closer.
Papelbon set down the Marlins in order in the ninth to record his first save as a Nat, and his 18th of the season overall.
Zimmerman’s homer, his sixth of the season, was part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate for the former UVA star.
Dan Haren (7-7, 3.42 ERA) took the loss for Miami, giving up a run on four hits in six innings of work, striking out four and walking two.
