Mark Obenshain, on his taxpayer-funded break from having to chase ambulances and haunt nursing homes to keep the lights on, took to Facebook on Thursday to mourn the political end of Glenn Youngkin.
“Last night, Governor Youngkin gave his final State of the Commonwealth address before a joint assembly of the House and Senate. He spoke of what some have termed as the Virginia Renaissance,” began the missive from Obenshain, the political failson from Rockingham County.
No one, for the record, outside of Youngkin, has referred to the past four years as being anything resembling a renaissance in Virginia.
Unemployment is up nearly a percentage point.
Our K-12 schools were ranked in the Top 10 nationally by U.S. News & World Report in 2021; we’re 14th now.
CNBC ranked us the Best State for Business in 2021; it’s a quibble, but we’re fourth now, with just the 14th-best state economy.
On the one hand, he got rid of the Black superintendent at VMI, Jim Ryan at UVA, demonized gays, lesbians and trans teens.
ICYMI
- Virginia ain’t the Best State for Business anymore: Thanks, MAGA
- VMI announces new, White guy, superintendent: ’87 alum David Furness
- Jim Ryan tells all: ‘What did the Governor know, when did he know it?’
On the other, think of all the unqualified White incel college dropouts who found easy ways to make a living as government bureaucrats.
There’s a reason why Virginia went from four years of Glenn Youngkin and Jason Miyares trying to turn us into West Virginia and went with Abigail Spanberger and her team in a landslide.
Mark Obenshain lives in an alternate reality.
“Four years ago, more people were leaving the Commonwealth than entering it,” Obenshain wrote – fact check: I dunno, look at the chart to the right, for what was really going on.
“… schools were lagging behind nationally” – they still are.
“… and as a whole Virginia was following, not leading.”
Jumping, not even asking how high, before Trump even says the word, that’s leading now.
“Because of his work, and Virginia‘s positive response to it, we now are one of the best states in the country to do business” – not.
“… our schools are models of education, like they once were” – not.
“… and Virginians are leaving this Commonwealth a better place for the future generations.”
Fact check: true.
See: results of 2025 election.
“Thank you, Governor Youngkin, for your leadership, and I wish you the best of luck and whatever comes next for you and Suzanne.”
Suzanne can do better.
So can we, in a state senator.
