The suspect in a stabbing approximately one week ago in Lynchburg has turned himself in, according to police.

Tykwon Mitchell turned himself in on Thursday to the Lynchburg Police Department.

He has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding for a stabbing involving a 27-year-old female.

According to police, the victim was stabbed when attempting to break up a brawl that occurred in the street outside a residence in the 500 block of Chambers Street. She was treated for multiple stab wounds at Lynchburg General Hospital.

The female was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mitchell was named a suspect following the incident. However, police believe he had fled the area.

At the time of the stabbing, Mitchell had previous outstanding warrants for strangulation or suffocation of another and domestic assault and battery.

This case remains under investigation.

No bond was granted for Mitchell.
