Lynchburg | Police charge one with first-degree murder in Rivermont Avenue homicide

The Lynchburg Police Department has charged a 40-year-old man with murder in the Rivermont Avenue homicide that occurred on Aug. 18.

Victor Dale Giles, of Lynchburg, has been charged with first-degree murder, use of firearm in commission of a felony and firearm possession by a convicted felon.

The charges are connected to the shooting death of Kasim Holmes, 31, last Monday night.

Giles has faced 34 charges in Lynchburg since 2019 including assault and battery, disorderly contact, assault on law enforcement, obstruction of justice, drug possession with intent to distribute, according to Virginia’s online court system.

According to the LPD, officers responded to a malicious wounding call and found Holmes dead in the 1100 block of Rivermont Ave.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation; LPD continues to pursue all leads.
