Lynchburg drops Sunday matinee to Wilmington

lynchburg hillcatsLuis Lugo came off the disabled list and struck out five over three innings, but the Lynchburg Hillcats bats were silent in the early going in a 4-2 loss to the Blue Rocks on Sunday afternoon.

Wilmington scored two in the first thanks in part to a pair of errors. Ramon Torres led off with a single and moved to third on a bunt single by Jack Lopez and an error at first. Zane Evans lined a ball to third that hit off the glove of Paul Hendrix that allowed Torres to score. Frank Schwindelpicked up an RBI single later in the inning, and it was 2-0 Blue Rocks after one.

Logan Moon added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI singled that scored Dominique Taylor to make it 3-0. Taylor led off the frame with a double.

Lynchburg pulled themselves within one in the sixth. Ivan Castillo tripled down the right field line for the second consecutive game and scored on a sacrifice fly from Clint Frazier. Nellie Rodriguez followed with his fourth home run of the year and it was 3-2 Wilmington after five and a half.

The Blue Rocks moved the lead back to two in the bottom half with an RBI single from Moon that scored Cam Gallagher. Gallagher doubled earlier in the frame.

The Hillcats brought the tying run to the plate again in the ninth, but came up short and lost by two for the second game in a row, 4-2.

The final game of the four game series is Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Fans can tune into the action on ESPN Radio Virginia 93.3 FM and 1320 AM. The Hillcats On-Deck Show begins at 6:15 p.m.
