libertyEleven games against 2016 NCAA Regional participants, including 2016 Super Regional qualifier East Carolina, are part of a challenging 2017 Liberty baseball schedule.

The Flames’ schedule features 27 home games at Liberty Baseball Stadium. Liberty will open its 2017 home schedule against Kentucky on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.

The Flames will start a new era under first-year head coach Scott Jackson and its 2017 campaign against 2015 National Champion and 2016 regional participant Virginia at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C., on Feb. 17. The contest will be part of a season opening tournament hosted by the Citadel. Liberty will also play Kansas and the host team during the weekend.

The Flames will welcome 2016 NCAA participants Bryant (March 3-5), Duke (March 7) and Bethune-Cookman (March. 31-Apr.2) to Liberty Baseball Stadium during the year. Liberty will also face East Carolina (March 28), Virginia (April 2) and Duke (May 16) on the road.

Another highlight of the Flames’ 2017 schedule will be a visit to perennial top 25 program and ACC member North Carolina on April 18. Before becoming Liberty’s head coach this past June, Jackson was an assistant coach with the Tar Heels for eight years.

Elon, Kansas State, UMBC, St. John’s and St. Joseph’s, along with Commonwealth opponents James Madison and VCU round out the Flames’ non-conference slate.

Liberty will open its 2017 Big South Conference schedule with a three-game series against High Point, March 17-19 at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The Flames will also host Campbell, Presbyterian and Winthrop, while traveling to Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and Longwood for three-game conference series

The Flames will look to capture the 2017 Big South Baseball Championship at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium, May 23-27. The conference champion will receive the Big South’s automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Regional play in the 2017 NCAA Tournament is scheduled for June 2-4 at sites yet to be determined.
