Justin McKoy signs Letter of Intent with Virginia Basketball

uva basketballVirginia basketball coach Tony Bennett announced Thursday the signing of forward Justin McKoy (Cary, N.C./Panther Creek High School) to a financial aid agreement with the national-champion Cavaliers.

“We are excited to welcome Justin into the Virginia men’s basketball family,” Bennett said. “Justin is a talented forward who is skilled and competitive. He and his family value education and we’re looking forward to having Justin join our program this fall.”

In 2018-19, McKoy (6-8, 225) led the Panther Creek (24-6) to the Tri-6 conference tournament title and the third round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs. McKoy averaged 24.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals en route to North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association second-team honors. McKoy, who was the NCBCA District 5 Player of the Year, was coached by former ACC player Shawan Robinson.

McKoy was a four-time All-Triangle Six Conference pick and an All-District pick. He averaged 21.4 points and 9.0 rebounds as a junior at Panther Creek in 2017-18.

A 2017 John Wall All-Tournament team member, McKoy averaged 24 points and eight rebounds in the holiday event. The year prior, he was selected to the Leon Brogden All-Tournament team while averaging 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in his sophomore season.

McKoy finished his four-year high school career as Panther Creek’s all-time leading scorer with 2,054 career points.

McKoy played for AAU Team Loaded North Carolina along with future Cavalier Kadin Shedrick (Raleigh, N.C./Holly Springs High School).
