JMU women’s basketball receives votes in the Week 13 AP Top 25 poll

jmu logoJMU women’s basketball is again receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, pulling in four points in the week 13 edition of the national rankings.

JMU received votes through the first nine editions of the 2014-15 weekly poll as well as the last seven editions of the 2013-14 weekly poll. Madison has also received votes in every edition of the 2014-15 USA Today Coaches Poll, being ranked as high as 23rd twice this season (Nov. 18, Nov. 25) as well as 24th once (Dec. 23).

The Dukes are 18-2 overall for just the fourth time in program history. With a 9-0 record through the opening half of Colonial Athletic Association action, they are atop the league standings and hold a 1.5-game lead over second-place Drexel.

Madison has won 27 of its last 28 meetings against CAA foes (regular season and tournament), including 14 consecutive contests dating back to the 2013-14 regular season.

Nationally, the Dukes hold an RPI of 28 and are tied for the 14th-best won-lost percentage (90.0). They are eighth in offensive rebounds per game (18), 10th in rebound margin (+10.7) and 16th in scoring margin (+15.6).

Junior guard Precious Hall (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) is third in the nation in made three-point field goals per game (3.30). Junior point guard Angela Mickens (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) is fourth in assists per game (7.6) and redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor (Hamden, Conn./Hopkins School (Providence)) is eighth in offensive rebounds per game (5).

JMU begins a three-game road stretch this weekend with a northern swing to Hofstra and Drexel. The Dukes face the Pride Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y., before taking on the Dragons Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
