jmu-logo-newKatie Kerrigan, a sophomore attacker, has joined the James Madison women’s lacrosse team after spending her freshman season at Ohio State.

The Oakton, Va., native appeared in three games for the Buckeyes as a freshman and scored her first collegiate goal in a 19-4 win over Detroit.

“We are so excited to welcome Katie to JMU and have such great in-state talent at James Madison,” Head CoachShelley Klaes-Bawcombe said.  “Her athleticism and competitive nature, through both a lacrosse and basketball background, equip her with attributes that will help her to compete right away.”

A graduate of James Madison High School, Kerrigan was a four-time starter and letterwinner under head coach Amanda Counts. Kerrigan led her team to four consecutive district championships from 2011-14.  She closed her high school career with two regional and state championships during the 2011 and 2013 seasons.

During her senior year at James Madison High School, Kerrigan was named First Team All-American.  She was also named a scholar athlete all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society.

The Dukes are coming off a very successful 2015 campaign, earning the Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship. They finished the season with an overall 15-5 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
