Former James Madison All-America basketball player Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) is traveling to China with a U.S. All-Star Team.

Evans (JMU ’11) is on a 12-player squad that will play in the Four Nations Invitational, with the first game being played in Yancheng.  Coached by Chris Denker, the U.S. squad will face the national teams from China, Russia and Great Britain, all of which are preparing for the 2012 London Olympic Games.  This marks the first time a non-federation team is participating in a FIBA Olympic tune-up event.

Following its three games in the Four Nations Invitational, the U.S. team will face the Chinese National B squad in a three-game series.

The trip is scheduled for June 26 through July 11.

Also named to the U.S. roster for the Four Nations Invitational were Katie Bussey, Montana State; Ashley Corrall, Southern California; Jence Rhoads, Vanderbilt; Brittany Carter, Memphis; Becky Burke, Louisville; Briana Gilbreath, Southern California; Amanda Johnson, Oregon; Kristina Santiago, Cal Poly; Cierra Bravard, Florida State; Becca Tobin, Arizona State; and Kali Bennett, Arizona State.

Evans, who led JMU to the Colonial Athletic Association title in both 2010 and 2011, is the Dukes’ and the CAA’s all-time leading scorer (2,667 points).  She was the 2011 CAA Player of the Year and the 2011 CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.  Evans earned Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention in 2010 and 2011.

Earlier this year Evans played in Vienna, Austria, for the Flying Foxes and signed a training camp contract with the Women’s National Basketball Association’s Connecticut Sun.  She trained with the Sun in April and May but was not selected for the Sun’s 2012 roster.

I remember Tim Kaine, back when he was still lieutenant governor, playing a big role in helping the Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative get off the ground, back in 2004. Bob Goodlatte tried to take the credit. I know better. I was there, literally. That’s the advantage of me being old. The Cooperative took over a...
