The suspect in a fatal shooting on Interstate 85 in Mecklenburg County turned himself in to police on Wednesday evening.
Jason Allen Glidewell II is being held without bond at the Meherrin River Regional Jail in Alberta, which is a small town in Brunswick County.
Glidewell faces charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in the Aug. 28 shooting death of Hunter Bates, 20, on I-85 at the five-mile marker. A female passenger in Bates’ vehicle was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries but was later released.

Glidewell also faces unrelated outstanding misdemeanor charges out of Nottoway County. Online court records show two charges of assault and battery dating back to June.
An acquaintance of Glidewell contacted Virginia State Police to arrange the arrest at 6:02 p.m. Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Alberta Police Department provided assistance to Virginia State Police.
VSP had sent out an alert regarding Glidewell after he was identified as a suspect calling him “armed and dangerous.” On Tuesday, VSP released the vehicle and license plate information for the suspect vehicle, which was located later that day. VSP did not release where the vehicle was found.
The Town of Alberta has less than 300 residents.
An arraignment on the Nottoway County charges is scheduled for Sept. 10. The next hearing for Glidewell on the fatal shooting is scheduled for Oct. 14.
