The gas fill-up cost for the average Augusta County guy with a big pickup truck, and we’ve got more than our fair share of those – both the guys who feel the need to have big pickup trucks, for compensation purposes, and the resulting big pickup trucks – has gone up $37.29 since the start of Donald Trump’s war in Iran five weeks ago.
And with the news today being that Iran shot down at least one U.S. warplane, maybe two, it doesn’t matter what Trump seems to want you to believe – this war ain’t going to be over anytime soon.
How much more are you going to pay for gas is anybody’s guess.
The fill-up cost numbers come from AAA, the Federal Highway Administration and Energy Information Administration data.
The cost to fill up the top-selling pickup truck is now $144.65; it was $107.36 at the start of the war, on Feb. 28.
More data:
- The cost to fill up the top-selling SUV is now $58.26, an increase of $15.02
- The cost to fill up the top-selling sedan is now $52.23, an increase of $13.46
It’s Trump’s dumb war, and you’re paying for it, many times over, is the message here.
“Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz was a predictable response that the administration was embarrassingly unprepared for. Now, Virginians are paying hundreds of millions more at the pump, while costs are rising for groceries, air travel, fertilizer, aluminum, and more,” U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, both D-Va., said in a joint statement.
“Even if the Strait reopened tomorrow, the chaos Trump has caused for global markets means these increased costs are here for the long haul,” the senators said.
GasBuddy has the average for a gallon of gas at this writing at $4.09 a gallon; it was at $2.98 a gallon on the eve of the war, on Feb. 27, and was at $2.74 a gallon on Jan. 4, for the lowest price of the calendar year.
