Four tickets sold in Virginia for the Powerball drawing won $50,000 each, but no one matched all six numbers nationwide.
The jackpot for Saturday, Sept. 6, is now estimated at $1.7 billion. It was last won on May 31.
This drawing now marks the third largest prize in U.S. lottery history.
If a player wins the Powerball jackpot on Saturday, they will have the choice between an annuitized prize estimated at $1.7 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $770.3 million, before taxes. If a player chooses the annuity option, they will receive one payment immediately, followed by 29 annual payments.
The six numbers drawn last night were white balls 3, 16, 29, 61, 69, and red Powerball 22. The Power Play multiplier was two.
In Virginia, there were a total of 175,766 winning tickets in the Sept. 3 drawing, according to an update from the Virginia Lottery.
The four tickets worth $50K each in Virginia matched four of the first five winning numbers plus the Powerball number.
They were bought at:
- Elk Creek Country Store, 5224 Kentucky Springs Road, Bumpass
- Stop In Food Store, 856 Burks Hill Road, Bedford
- Wawa, 9471 Liberia Avenue, Manassas
- Online using the Virginia Lottery app
Nationwide, 11 tickets matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes; four tickets doubled their prize to $2M by including the Power Play option. The tickets were sold in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.
