Holton leads small-business talk in Chesterfield

Anne Holton campaigned on behalf of her husband, U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, in Chesterfield County, on Thursday.

In Midlothian, Holton addressed a group of more than 40 local small business and community leaders at Dolce Vita restaurant where she spoke about Kaine’s strategies to create jobs now and strengthen the economy for the long term. Holton then traveled to Chester to tour Tidewater Fibre Corporation Recycling, a family-owned business that operates as Virginia’s largest residential curbside recycler.

Throughout the afternoon, Holton emphasized Kaine’s forward-looking approach to balance the federal budget, develop a national talent economy, and level the playing field for small businesses.

“Tim served as governor during the worst recession since the Great Depression, but his balanced approach to the budget and strategic investments in Virginia’s economy helped the Commonwealth fair better than most states in tough economic times,” said Holton. “Tim’s hard work helped Virginia to be named Forbes’ Best State for Business four years in a row and Governing magazine’s Best Managed State. And Tim understands that companies came to Virginia for our talented workforce, and if we want to continue to encourage businesses to take root and hire here we need to continue to invest in our schools, our infrastructure, and our workforce.”

Holton went on to highlight Kaine’s commitment to finding common ground to create jobs and strengthen Virginia’s economy. As governor, Kaine worked across the aisle to maintain the state’s business-friendly environment, cut taxes, and move Virginia forward on important issues like health care, higher education, and public transportation.

“On the City Council, as mayor of Richmond, and as governor, Tim successfully brought people together to solve problems in Virginia,” said Holton. “We need more people in the Senate who will work to break through the gridlock to focus on what matters most to Virginia families — creating jobs and strengthening our economy. As our next Senator, you can be confident that Tim will work with members of both parties in Washington to help get us back on track.”

In addition to Chesterfield County, Holton’s Small Business Tour has made stops in Manassas, Surry, Smithfield, Emporia, Vienna, Occoquan, Ashland, Fredericksburg, Staunton, Lexington, Roanoke, and Hopewell.
