Harrisonburg Turks nip Charlottesville Tom Sox, 2-1

hbg turksFirst baseman J.J. Bissell  (Oklahoma City University) snapped a 1-1 tie with a homer in the bottom of the seventh and Matt Hartman (Arizona) scattered four hits over seven innings as Harrisonburg defeated visiting Charlottesville, 2-1, Monday in Valley League Baseball.

The Turks are 3-0 against the newest franchise in the VBL and improved to 9-5 overall.  The Tom Sox slipped to 5-10.

Hartman improved to 2-0 with the longest outing of the season by any Harrisonburg starter.  The only run he allowed came in the first; he walked two and fanned four.

Bissell has homered in three of the last four games.

Harrisonburg center fielder Shane Billings (Wingate) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and third baseman Tyler Straub (Texas San Antonio) went 2-for-4.

The Turks play at Staunton Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.  The next home game is Friday vs. Winchester, also at7:30 p.m.
