The Harrisonburg Fire Department will use a $10,000 grant to expand its car seat and bike safety outreach in the city.

The funding was awarded from the Virginia Department of Health and looks to strengthen public health and emergency response capabilities in the city.

“We are grateful to the Virginia Department of Health for this important investment in the health and safety of our community,” said Matthew Tobia, Harrisonburg fire chief. “As important as the funding is, its value is only realized through the hard work and commitment of our community risk reduction team.

“This award demonstrates the shared mission of both HFD and VDH to protect the well-being of all Virginians through proactive planning, rapid response and strong community partnerships.”

In addition to car seat safety checks, the Harrisonburg Fire Department program includes free car seats for qualified individuals.
