Have you dreamed of having a shingle on Main Street? The City of Harrisonburg is looking for creative uses for a two-story house located on South Main Street, and if you have the best idea, they may even be willing to give it to you.
The city is inviting individuals, organizations and businesses to submit a proposal detailing ideas for rejuvenating the former home of the Virginia Quilt Museum.
City staff would like to ensure the 301 S. Main St. house is preserved while complementing and enhancing the experiences of those visiting Downtown and the wider Harrisonburg community.
“This is a unique opportunity to take a building key to the history of our community and ensure it continues to contribute to everything that makes our downtown a wonderful place to visit, work or live,” said Brian Vandenberg, Harrisonburg assistant to the city manager.
“We are excited to see the creativity and new ideas people have for how this important space can be rejuvenated.”
The city currently owns the 0.22-acre parcel left vacant when the Quilt Museum relocated to Dayton. The city will consider purchase offers and proposals for a no-cost conveyance of the property.
Proposals are due by Oct. 14.
More information on how to submit a proposal is online.
