Greensville County: Washington, D.C., man dead in crash on Interstate 95

One person is dead and another seriously injured after a crash this morning on Interstate 95 in Greensville County.

Rufus J. Whitaker, 62, of Washington, D.C., died at the scene.

Virginia State Police is investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash at 8:51 a.m. on I-95 southbound at the 12-mile marker.

A Volvo XC90 went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, went off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail, before overturning.

The driver of the Volvo, Brenda Bullock, 54, also of Washington, D.C., suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital by helicopter.

Whitaker was a passenger in the vehicle and was partially ejected in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
