George Mason men’s basketball to face Ole Miss in Gildan Charleston Classic

george-mason2George Mason will open the 2015 Gildan Charleston Classic on November 19 facing Ole Miss as the tournament bracket was released by ESPN Events’ this morning. The Patriots and Rebels will tipoff at noon on ESPN3.

The eighth annual tournament will be held at TD Arena on Nov. 19, 20 & 22 and features Bradley, Long Beach State, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall, Towson and Virginia in addition to Mason. The eight-team bracket-format tournament features 12 games over three days to be shown across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. The championship game on Sunday will be showcased on ESPN2.

After Mason and Ole Miss open the tournament on Nov. 19, Oklahoma State and Towson will play at 2 p.m. followed by Virginia against Bradley and Long Beach State versus Seton Hall. The first two games will air on ESPN3.

Mason is one of two teams making a return trip to the tournament as Seton Hall participated in the event in 2011, finishing second behind Northwestern who took the title. In Mason’s first trip to the tournament in 2010, the Patriots opened with a victory over Charlotte before falling to N.C. State and Wofford in overtime.

Mason and Ole Miss have met twice in program history with the series tied, 1-1. The two programs first met on December 1, 2001 with Mason capturing the victory, 71-70. Ole Miss evened the series on Nov. 30, 2002 with a 56-49 victory in Fairfax. Last season, the Rebels posted a 21-13 overall record, 11-7 mark in the SEC and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Miami captured the 2014 Charleston Classic, defeating Charlotte in the championship, 77-58. In addition to Miami, other winners of the Charleston Classic include UMass (2013), Colorado (2012), Northwestern (2011), Georgetown (2010), Miami (2009) and Clemson (2008).
