Former Texas, Arizona QB Connor Brewer transferring to UVA

UVaHelmet_1Connor Brewer is making UVA the third stop on his tour of FBS college football. The former Texas and Arizona quarterback announced Tuesday that he is transferring to Virginia, and with his degree in hand from Arizona, Brewer will be eligible to play for the Cavaliers this fall.

Brewer had originally signed with Texas out of high school and redshirted in 2012 before deciding to transfer to Arizona. That required him to sit out a transfer year in 2013. He finally got on the field in mop-up duty in two games for the Wildcats in 2014 before deciding again to transfer.

In the spring, Brewer had declared his intention to finish out his remaining two years of eligibility at Northern Arizona, but that was before the QB merry-go-round opened up a chance to compete at Virginia when backup Greyson Lambert decided to transfer, ultimately ending up at Georgia.

Brewer at least theoretically will have a chance to compete with Matt Johns, who emerged from the spring as the #1 option on the depth chart at quarterback at UVA, ahead of Lambert, the 2014 starter.
