A Manassas man wanted for two felony probation violations led law enforcement officers on a pursuit up to 100 miles per hour on Interstate 66 in Fauquier County on Tuesday.

Devante R. Payne, 31, has been charged by the Blue Ridge Gang and Drug Task Force with eluding law enforcement, abduction, possession of schedule I/II narcotics, fleeing from law enforcement, driving revoked and reckless driving.

Payne was also wanted out of Prince William County on two felony probation violations.

Officers attempted to initiate the traffic stop at approximately 2:15 p.m. on I-66 at the 23-mile marker for an alleged improper registration. Payne refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, according to the police report.   Payne continued north onto Leeds Manor Road where Payne stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. Law enforcement personnel quickly set up a perimeter.

Payne was later located and taken into custody without incident.

Payne was transported to the Fauquier Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond, according to Virginia State Police.

There was an adult female passenger in the Mitsubishi during the pursuit. Payne refused to stop and let her exit the vehicle. She was not injured during the incident and was released without any charges.

Prince William County Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Manassas Park Police Department, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Leesburg Police Department and the Fairfax County Police Department assisted with the apprehension.

The Blue Ridge Narcotics and Gang Task Force is composed of law enforcement personnel from the Culpeper, Fauquier, Orange, Madison, and Rappahannock sheriff’s offices, Culpeper, Warrenton, Orange police departments and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Culpeper field office.
