ymca black beltThe father-daughter duo of Brian Cohen and Samantha Cohen were promoted to Shodan, the first degree black belt, after five years of study at the Chikubu-Kai dojo at the Waynesboro YMCA.

“It has been a great joy being Brian and Samantha’s sensei (teacher),” instructor Tony Cooper said. “I look forward to seeing their progression for years to come. Their new journey has just begun.”

The word Shodan is used for the first degree black belt title because the character used to represent it in Japanese also means first or beginning.
